  • The monument at Omaha Beach - in both French and Engiish.
  • There is a nature preserve at Omaha Beach now.  It includes a swamp that the Allied troops had to cross to get to the top of the hill.
  • The American Cemetery at Omaha Beach where nearly 10,000 American service men are buried.  It is a very emotional place.
  • The crosses are all in perfect rows throughout the cemetery.

  • Soldiers of all denominations are buried here.
  • We saw graves of soldiers from throughout the United States - very sad and moving.

  • There are a number of similar very sad stories about the soldiers who died on D-Day.

  • Pointe Du Hoc was the most difficult area to be captured by the Allies.  This memorial tells the story.

  • Point Du Hoc was heavily defended by the sheer cliffs, barbed wire and German machine guns.

  • Near the end of WWII - the Allies closed in on Hitler's Germany.
  • We stayed near this little French town of Bayeux.  A peaceful place now but not on June 7, 1944.
