Paris: Notre Dame Cathedral and Sainte-Chappelle
Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is one of the largest churches in the world. It is dedicated to "Our Lady" (Notre Dame). Construction began in 1163 A.D. and was completed 200 years later. We attended Mass there on May 11, 2014. Nearby is the beautiful Sainte-Chappelle. It was constructed specifically to house the Crown of Thorns - those worn by Jesus during his Crucifixion. The interior is stunning with 6,500 square feet of stained glass depicting the entire history of Christianity within 1,100 scenes. Over two-thirds of the stained glass date back to the 1200's.
